The U.S. Geological Survey Energy Resources Program (ERP) provides impartial scientific information related to oil, natural gas, and coal resources throughout the world. This information is provided to the public through a variety of geospatially oriented products including reports, maps, geospatial data, and web services. Data managers within the ERP work to deliver these products through the web in a timely and efficient manner but have found it increasingly difficult due to vast amounts of legacy information and ongoing research. In response to this problem, the ERP has designed, developed, and implemented a new Web application framework based on ArcIMS Metadata Server. This framework and associated application provides a mechanism to index and deliver products efficiently while empowering users with the ability to discover them in a variety of ways. This presentation will discuss the framework, application, and problems encountered during development. Initial implementation is available at http://energy.cr.usgs.gov/oilgas/wep/.
