GLIDE: The Geographically Linked Information Dissemination Environment
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Matt Benden

GLIDE is the Marine Corps Intelligence Activity (MCIA)-Geographic Analysis Branch's (GAB) Web-based tool for dissemination of geographic and imagery intelligence products to the Marine Corps operating forces and the larger Intelligence Community (IC). Born of a need for an efficient means of dissemination (the oft-forgotten "last step" of intelligence production), GLIDE was conceived as a Web-based query and dissemination tool. Sporting an enterprise-level backend architecture (Oracle, ArcSDE, and ArcIMS), GLIDE presents an uncluttered, intuitive, Web-based interface that allows the intelligence operator to discover and download intelligence products in five mouse clicks or less. GLIDE is a fully participatory member in the Defense Intelligence Agency's Distributed Geospatial Intelligence Network (DGINET) program, and specific GLIDE functionalities have been incorporated into the DGINET codebase. Through the use of standards-based XML metadata tags, GLIDE can query, display, and download intelligence products from other participating DGINET entities without leaving the GLIDE interface.
