Abstract
Benthic Habitat Characterization: Integrating Data and Analyses Track: Ocean, Coastal, and Marine Resources Author(s): Michael Parke In this presentation, I will demonstrate a suite of data processing and GIS analysis techniques used to classify a proposed anchorage area for the U.S. Navy in Saipan. The Coral Reef Ecosystem Division of NOAA's Pacific Islands Science Center is tasked with mapping and monitoring the benthic habitats of the U.S. Pacific Islands. We use multiple observation and measurement tools, generating massive amounts of data in a wide variety of formats. An ongoing challenge is to integrate these diverse data and to identify the appropriate data management and analyses tools necessary to derive useful products.
