Abstract
Asset Management Using GIS for Sewerage System of Mumbai Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Vidyadhar Vengurlekar, R Khan, P Sanglikar The paper will describe the Sewerage Utility Management Centre (SUMC) set up in Mumbai, India, since 1997 to manage its network of 1500 Kms of sewers. The preferred platform for GIS was the de facto industry standard ArcInfo with tailor-made applications to cater to the operation and maintenance requirements. The SUMC is actively used for keeping the network-related complaints to a minimum and provides the highest degree of customer satisfaction. This has helped the organization to prioritize a sewer rehabilitation strategy, in accordance with the WRc guidelines, to arrive at an asset replacement plan covering a master plan up to 2025. The GIS was also used in modeling and simulation of an existing network and the expansion of services to unsewered areas under the said master plan.
