Abstract
Developing an Atlas Dispatch Solution in ArcView Track: Cartography and Map Production Author(s): Ann Munsell Dispatching service vehicles over numerous territories covering a large geographic area can be a daunting task to any organization. This session will explore Universal Map's successes and challenges in the creation of dispatch atlases. The map production system utilized includes the new Maplex Label Engine extension for better label placement as well as other programs written for ArcMap. Atlases were also exported in PDF format to accommodate "On Demand" printing in emergency situations. The project included determining atlas scale while maintaining a manageable book size, indexing streets and customized layers, creating a comprehensive indexing/bingo grid for the entire geographic area, developing atlas pages directly within ArcMap, being able to export to printable formats, optimizing the time consuming printing, and assembly of the atlases, while doing the project at an affordable cost.
