FSGeodata: The USDA Forest Service Online Geospatial Clearinghouse
Track: Federal Government Systems
Author(s): David George, Matthew Sheehan, Matthew Sheehan

The United States National Forest System consists of more than 190 million acres of lands comprising National Forests, National Grasslands and Prairies, Wilderness Areas, and Wild and Scenic Rivers. The agency creates and maintains large amounts of digital geospatial data in the course of managing these lands. The Forest Service recently launched an online data clearinghouse utilizing ArcIMS, ArcSDE, and other Esri solutions to help make these data, and their associated metadata, available to the public in a more efficient and convenient manner. The Clearinghouse also supports agency participation in other national initiatives such as Geospatial One Stop, and The National Map. Learn more about the technology used and the data offerings from FSGeodata.
