Development of a Work Order Management System
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Mukund Dangeti, Srinivas Pulugurtha, Shashi Nambisan

At present, most Public Works organizations across the nation record work order complaints and assign work orders to the respective staff of the department in a hard paper format. This is not only tedious but a time consuming process, often resulting in an inefficient and ineffective management of the resources. The goal, thus, is to look for avenues and explore the advancements in technology to improve the working process and better utilize the existing resources. This paper will present a framework for a computerized tool to manage and utilize such resources. The computerized tool is developed using ArcPad software, which can be installed in the handhelds. ArcPad software offers a low-cost solution to capture data, and allows the user to use, update and modify GIS data in the field.
