U.S. Army Installation Spatial Data Warehouse (GIS Repository)
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Christopher Scott, Terry Rhea, Young Pyo

The GIS Repository (GISR) is an ambitious IT GIS project that is being created to house the Army's installation GIS data and distribute it to users both centrally and remotely via web browser. GISR is the spatial data warehouse for storing installation geospatial information for the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management. The primary benefits of the GISR are to increase the situational awareness of the U.S. Army installations, to provide a single location for reporting spatial data to stakeholders, and to provide tools to installations without on-site GIS staff.

This presentation will discuss the history and current status of the GISR. Issues to be discussed include the hardware, software, and network implementation; the logistical issues surrounding the collection and aggregation of a central database; raster and vector data issues; data security, and integration with the DoD Enterprise Architecture.
