Using ArcIMS to View Census Geography
Track: Application Development
Author(s): Anthony Kirvan

In support of the Geography Division's Geodatabase project, ArcIMS was used to create several applications to view and query database layers in a Web browser. Since the software was designed to work in a single user environment and our setup would not allow a separate Web service on every computer, we developed a process where multiple users could start and stop individual map services. Once the services were running, we were able to customize the default files produced by ArcIMS Author and Designer. The paper will discuss how we overcame the initial difficulties of creating map services and then began to develop customized Web pages with content from a large centralized geodatabase and local shapefiles.
