Multi-Agency Approach for Water Quality Monitoring on Lake Mead
Track: Water Resources
Author(s): Art Ehrenberg

Lake Mead on the Colorado River is one of the most intensely used reservoirs in the western United States. In 1998, the Southern Nevada Water Authority was asked to create a repository for existing water quality data. Lab, instrument, and field data are collected in real-time and on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis at approximately 70+ sites by seven cooperating agencies and uploaded via the Internet into a central database. Data is then easily accessible to all organizations and individuals through a web site and ArcIMS service or available for downloading. Participating agencies include Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Geological Survey, Southern Nevada Water Authority, City of Las Vegas, Clark County Water Reclamation District, City of Henderson, and Clark County Regional Flood Control District. Additional information such as inflows, discharges, lake level, and weather can also be viewed/analyzed with current or historic data.
