Managing Your Water Utility with Integrated GIS
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): Paul Dietrich, Jeff Ott, David Hansen

After years of providing flat rate water service, the Citrus Heights Water District (CHWD) faced a Federal mandate to install meters for all its customers. The $12M capital improvement plan to install and manage meters and all the related process changes caused CHWD to realize their current systems could not handle the change and coming demand that would be placed on District staff. CHWD embarked on a plan to replace all of it's core information systems with a set of integrated applications. The key was the implementation of new financial, customer information (CIS), and computerized maintenance management (CMMS) systems all tied together by the GIS using Esri technology. The GIS brings all of these applications together to support office and field management requirements using realtime wireless field access and full compliance with GASB 34 requirements.
