Development of a Multimodal Spatial Transportation Network
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Raquel Wright

A physical model was produced to support integration of Intermodal facilities into a transportation network. The data model for the network was built by collecting requirements of which datasets to use, gathering routing behaviors by mode, and determining which software would be versatile enough for future needs. The routing behaviors were established and documented for each transportation mode: road, rail, water, and air. The network requirements were gathered from data owners and the commodity flow survey. The software chosen is an ArcGIS extension, Network Analyst, which is planned to be released with ArcGIS 9.0.2. The data was processed to be spatially joined between the four modes, and Intermodal facilities and the origin and destination begin and end at ZIP Code centroids.
