Abstract
Regional Mapping of Flooded Areas following Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne Track: Disaster Mangagement and Emergency Response Author(s): Shabbar Saifee, Jim Korte, Clay Baros The hurricane season of 2004 showcased the need to rapidly and accurately identify areas damaged by these high-energy storms. Mapping the location of flooded areas in a timely manner provides scientists and policy planners with real-world data to validate or improve existing flood maps and models. This paper will discuss using ArcMap and ERDAS IMAGINE to map the flooded areas of each hurricane by delineating areas of change found in satellite imagery. GIS is then used to analyze the floodwater height to aid FEMA and the insurance industry.
