GIS Layers and Data Sets Created by Orthos!
Track: Remote Sensing Imagery
Author(s): Manny Rosas

Pima Association of Governments (PAG) serves as the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for Pima County and its six jurisdictional members. In 1998 PAG, in conjunction with its members, contracted its first orthophotography project. Two additional projects dated in 2000 and 2002 have been performed. We are currently managing the Ortho 2005 project, which will consist of ½-1 foot natural color imagery and digital terrain model (DTMs) data sets. The elevation data is utilized by the jurisdictions for creating transportation and drainage conceptual design plans, floodplain mapping and monitoring hillside and slope ordinances. The orthophotography serves many functions such as digitizing and rectifing the region parcel base (ArcView shapefiles) and street networks, and serving as an excellent layer for performing transportation and drainage infrastructure inventory applications. PAG developed and maintains a regional data center which consists of ArcIMS mapping applications. Various GIS layers can be viewed and queried using customized ArcIMS map services.
