Abstract
Creating an Automated Map Production System for the Enterprise Track: Cartography and Map Production Author(s): John Bridenbecker, Julie Henry Some people want to convey information via maps yet find cartography a challenge. This paper will detail the system designed by Southern California Edison's Carrier Solutions GIS group to enable the creation of professional user generated maps. The system was developed to centralize and standardize data rendering at the RDBMS level with functionality within an Oracle/ArcSDE 8.3 corporate database. At the client level this rendering interacts with standardized departmental templates within ArcGIS encompassing logos, disclaimers, etc. The system is a tool to enable those individuals who are not cartographers to make intelligent and communicative maps quickly and easily.
