Creating Map Tips and Acetate Layers in the HTML Viewer
Track: Application Development
Author(s): David Askov

This presentation will cover a methodology for extracting point features from a SQL database and adding them to an acetate layer in the ArcIMS HTML Viewer. In addition to creating a point acetate layer, the presentation will demonstrate how to create client-side map tips when the user hovers the cursor over the points. This presentation will demonstrate how to add this functionality to a Web site and will make code samples available. Because the HTML Viewer works mostly with client-side code, one particular challenge was to include server-side processing before sending the map requests. Although the focus here is adding points to an acetate layer, the general methodology applies to any server-side processing that must be done before sending map requests from the HTML Viewer. The presentation will provide enough detail for the technical audience to implement the methodology, but the concepts will be general enough for any audience to understand.
