Utilizing Hydrology Networks in Forestry
Track: Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management
Author(s): Raymond Sims

State governments have developed Best Management Practices as guidelines for resource management activities in which drinking water standards may be impacted. Industry, government, and the public are required to comply with these guidelines when carrying out activities on the land base. Forest management activities must follow these Best Management Practices (BMPs). The BMPs require managed Hydrology data in order to support the required analyses. These analyses include the ability to perform Hydrology network tracing. Employing the use of Genus RMT's ArcGIS Hydrology extension in conjunction with an ArcSDE Geometric Network provides the framework for analyses. Creation and maintenance of a Hydrology network and the management of Georgia State BMPs necessary for the development of a water supply reservoir or watershed will be presented/demonstrated.
