An ArcGIS Extension for Integrating Temporal'Metocean Data
Track: Modeling
Author(s): Eoin Howlett, Martin Rutherford

One of the challenges facing GIS users is the integration of meteorological and oceanographic data that is typically stored in non-GIS data formats. This paper addresses the challenges faced in supporting data formats such as NetCDF, and the strategies used to manage large scale time varying data. The paper also looks at the possibilities of connecting ArcGIS to the integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) via OpenDAP servers, and the use of metocean data for applied oceanographic problems such as search & rescue and oil spill modeling.
