IMAGE2000: A Seamless Image Map of Europe
Track: Remote Sensing Imagery
Author(s): Steve Peedell, Vanda Lima

IMAGE2000 is a reference European dataset based on Landsat 7 ETM+ images. The primary purpose of the image data has been to provide the basis for the interpretation of land cover for 29 participating countries (CORINE Land Cover). The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is responsible for IMAGE200, and the European Environment Agency (EEA) is responsible for CORINE Land Cover. This paper will detail the characteristics of the data, the approach of JRC to manage this large archive of orthorectified imagery (approximately one terabyte, using ArcSDE/Oracle), and how the imagery is disseminated using ArcIMS as a WMS (OpenGIS Web Map Server) engine.
