Using ArcIMS/ArcGIS Server in the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT)
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Teague Buchanan

Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) developed an Esri ArcIMS/ArcGIS Server Web application called Transportation Explorer (TREX). TREX retrieves real-time GIS data, maps, reports, engineering design plans, photos, and aerial photography. Users query or interact with the map view to interpret and analyze data on transportation projects, bridges, facilities, traffic interruptions, traffic counts, roadway characteristics, crash, railroad, and management areas. Quick and easy access to enterprise transportation databases are limited by the need for client applications, timeliness of response, user knowledge of information systems, decentralized data sources, and the ability to visualize data. With the use of ArcIMS/ArcGIS Server, GDOT leveraged the use of existing data resources to resolve enterprise limitations and provide data to decision-makers quickly and easily.
