Moving Garrison GeoBase to the Installation Mapping and Visualization Service
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Laura Silsbee

Operationalizing the USAF GeoBase vision of "one installation...one map" involves coordination on vertical and horizontal levels. Garrison GeoBase was born in the mapping-rich environment of the Civil Engineer (CE) but visualizing data on a map and performing spatial analyses were always envisioned as cross-cutting, Air Force-wide capabilities to support both the warfighter in theater as well as all personnel at established installations. Moving to an enterprise solution involves refining the oversight structure, expanding stakeholder participation, and moving toward net-centric geospatial web services. GeoBase is morphing into the Installation Mapping and Visualization (IM&V) service at the AF enterprise level and is working through the shifting wickets of enterprise architecture and information resource management as a program that belongs to everyone, yet has to be "owned" by someone. This presentation will describe the current and future vision for IM&V and highlight key milestones that brought the program to its current status.
