Abstract
A Web-Based Hazard Guidance System for Tasking Satellite Image Acquisition Track: Remote Sensing Imagery Author(s): Michael Hodgson, Andrew Simpson, James Miller, Wm. Shirley, Bruce Davis, Jitka Kotelenska, Shannon Ramsay, Yang Cheng, Kevin Remington Satellite remotely sensed imagery collection for disaster response requires the consideration of possible collection opportunities in the appropriate sensor combinations. Information must be timely (e.g., 1-3 days) for response or within weeks for cleanup operations. A web-based Remote Sensing Hazard Guidance System (RSHGS) will act as a decision support system for acquisition and analysis of image collection opportunities. The RSHGS contains three subsystems: a remote sensing intelligence to determine optimum sensor and satellite opportunities, a GIS-based hazard modeling component to predict impact, and satellite orbital model component. Various Esri technologies are used in this project. The core functionality of the spatial decision support system (SDSS) includes ArcGIS Server and the Data Delivery Extension technologies, coupled with a SQL Server/SDE database acting as a repository for stored geographic elements.
