Using BLM's GeoCommunicator to Search/Map/Access Land and Mineral Data
Track: Cadastral and Land Records
Author(s): Leslie Cone

The BLM's National Integrated Land System (NILS) provides an enterprise-wide GIS architecture, a centralized geodatabase, and standardized survey-based land descriptions that provide the foundation for the spatial display and query of land and mineral use record data from the BLM's LR2000 system. NILS currently consists of a centralized GIS architecture, a geodatabase, and four custom modules: Survey Management, Measurement Management, Parcel Management, and GeoCommunicator. This presentation will touch on all four modules, with an emphasis on the GeoCommunicator website and its latest developments. The GeoCommunicator publicizes cadastral survey and land management information and data from NILS such as federal surface management agency boundaries and contacts, Cases That Affect Land Status (CTALS), and land and mineral use record information. Focus will be given to a live demonstration of how GeoCommunicator's interactive map viewer is used to search, map, and access mining claim, oil & gas lease, and land title data.
