Air Force GeoBase Portfolio Management Inventory
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Stephen Luttrell

The Air Force is required to manage its IT investments, including geospatial, in accordance with DoD and Federal policy and guidance. These policies include OMB Circular A-16,which applies to geospatial data and systems and the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) for Enterprise Architecture. To this end, the Air Force GeoBase Program, in concert with the Defense Installations Spatial Data Infrastructure (DISDI) and the joint Services, instituted a program-wide inventory in the spring of 2005 to catalog its geospatial portfolio. The inventory includes vector data, imagery, terrain, and software holdings across the Air Force. The purpose of the survey was to create a baseline for Portfolio Management, enabling GeoBase to more effectively and efficiently support the Air Force and larger DoD missions. The status of the available data can assist in identifying opportunities to support internal and external programs. An overview of the findings and how they impact the GeoBase program will be presented.
