GIS, the Internet, and Geographic Partnership Programs
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Linda Franz

Recognizing the expanded adoption of GIS as an everyday business tool by tribal, state, and local governments, the Census Bureau has planned geographic partnership programs for the 2010 Decennial Census that take advantage of these growing capabilities on the part of our partners. These programs provide for cooperative efforts between the Census Bureau and these governmental partners for the improvement of the positional accuracy of the road data in the TIGER data base, the reporting of legal boundary information, the delineation of statistical areas for the presentation of data, and improvement of the census address list. This presentation will describe the greater variety of participation options and methods that are planned as well as discuss the scope of and schedules for these partnerships.
