Abstract
Pairing GIS with Cutting-Edge, Non-Geospatial Technologies for Richer Solutions Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Kimberly Gill, Rob Painter Presented by Kimberly Gill and Rob Painter, In-Q-Tel, Inc. In-Q-Tel, the venture capital fund of the CIA, identifies and helps solve some of the toughest challenges faced by the CIA and the Intelligence Community (IC) by leveraging the creativity of the private sector, academia and national labs to seize new opportunities, see problems differently, and solve them in new ways. As innovators, In-Q-Tel assembles ideas, people, and technologies to demonstrate the art of the possible. In-Q-Tel has worked with Esri to incorporate non-geospatial technologies such as relationship analysis, visualization, and geotagging/parsing from In-Q-Tel's portfolio into Esri's Intel Demo to create a richer solution. In-Q-Tel also prototypes, pairing portfolio technologies with other technologies commonly used throughout the IC. The geospatial prototype, GeoQ, combines traditional GIS software with non-geospatial technologies such as entity extraction, alerting, 3-D visualization, and geotagging/parsing to provide geospatially-enhanced tools for the non-GIS expert. In the future, GeoQ may incorporate guided navigation, OCR, and machine translation with traditional GIS.
