Abstract
GIS Management of Weapon Ranges and Training Areas in Norway Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Frode Faraas A new and innovative management system based on modern GIS technology is currently under development in the Norwegian defence. More specifically, the new system is initially designed to be part of the overall day to day management of a new weapon range and training area currently being built in the Eastern part of Norway. GIS technology will be an integrated and vital part of this new management system, making it easier for the armed forces to efficiently plan their future activities in the area in compliance with standing environmental standards put forth by The Norwegian Pollution Control Authority (SFT) and other relevant authorities. The system is based on ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE and will in the fully developed system be implemented as thin WEB-clients in the Norwegian Defence`s intranet solution, called FIS-BASIS.
