NGA's Geographic Names Activity in the 21st Century
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Randall Flynn

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and predecessor organizations have supported the requirements of the Federal Government for authoritative foreign geographic names information through the provision of gazetteer services for over sixty years. The evolving methodologies are challenging NGA to transform its geographic names activity to keep pace with community needs. The presentation will describe the progress made in NGA's Geographic Names transformation effort and will illustrate the evolving place-name analysis methodologies with real-world examples.
