C/JMTK Migration--DISA Network Centric Capabilities Pilot Case Study
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Brett Antonides, Jr.

The Defense Information Services Agency is jump-starting their Network Centric Enterprise Services architecture with the Net-Centric Capabilities Pilot (NCCP). As a migration support activity under the CJMTK program, the NCCP prototype is developing a set of Geospatial Web Services. This effort leverages the power of ArcGIS Server, a new addition to C/JMTK, to provide access to ArcObjects in a web environment. ArcGIS Server allows for greater flexibility in design of components by allowing the business logic to be administered centrally, while maintaining a variety of clients. Clients have been developed to support ArcMap, ArcGlobe, custom applications utilizing map and globe controls, and web applications. Web services using ArcGIS Server remove the need for replicating data across the enterprise. This reduces storage requirements, while offloading computationally intensive tasks, allowing thinner, more mobile clients. This presentation will discuss the approach used in developing these services, the challenges involved, and lessons learned.
