A Geomatics Approach to Mountain Gorilla Behavior and Conservation Track: Ecology and Conservation Author(s): H. Dieter Steklis In the early 1990s, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund Int. launched an ambitious team effort, using GIS tools, to map and characterize the Virunga habitat of the endangered mountain gorilla and to provide a means for long-term assessment of gorilla habitat use and monitoring of habitat change. This presentation will highlight our results to date including landcover classifications and gorilla habitat use in relation to ecological-geographic and anthropogenic factors. H.
