DGN to ArcSDE and Back Again
Track: Cadastral and Land Records
Author(s): Thomas Nicoski

Kane County, Illinois, began its GIS journey in the DGN world and only recently converted to the Esri world. Esri's format and products such as ArcSDE, ArcIMS, ArcGIS, ArcObjects, and MapObjects have allowed us to package our GIS in a way that our CAD software never could. We are now doing what those who began our GIS could only dream of back in 1985. This includes GIS applications on the enterprise, Web, and mobile levels along with the integration of many of the county's traditional databases. Even though we gained so much by moving to the new format and products, we knew we would still need to move our data back to the DGN format for those few who were still tied to the DGN format. This presentation describes how Esri's Data Interoperability extension enabled us to journey from DGN to ArcSDE and back again.
