Evaluation of the Spatial Statistics Toolbox in ArcGIS 9.x
Track: Modeling
Author(s): Antoni Magri, Joe Francis

Esri took another major step in its continued development of desktop GIS with the release of ArcGIS 9.x. Among the enhancements was the inclusion of a Spatial Statistics Toolbox, which introduced a set of tools that are widely used in descriptive and inferential spatial statistics in the social development, economic, crime analysis, and environmental fields. This paper will demonstrate applications of these new tools to modeling economic development in Europe and compare the results to those of comparable tools found in specialized third-party software packages. Results of these comparisons will be presented and possible enhancements in the functionality of the new toolbox will be suggested.
