Georgikon Map-Server: Seed for a Watershed Information System
Track: Ecology and Conservation
Author(s): István Sisák

The concept of the Georgikon Map-Server has been conceived, realized, and developed in different projects since 2001. The created GIS database has been published (http://www.georgikon.hu/nkfp/szerver.htm). A recent project aims at (1) developing a comprehensive database for the whole watershed that allows detailed assessment of soil properties influencing erosion and runoff, (2) developing a user interface to help farmers and advisors determine basic variables of erosion, (3) developing a model that makes it possible to dynamically assess transition of sheet and rill erosion, (4) publishing a wide variety of data that makes directly visible spatial joins of on- and off-site effects of erosion and hierarchy of responsibilities, and (5) developing a system that makes it possible to plan and service environmental sound precision farming. Significant progress has been achieved in objective 1 and preliminary results in the others. The developed database allows us to prioritize field-scale and catchments-scale actions.
