Utilizing Geodatabase-Centric Solutions for Utility Ticket Management at Waterford Township
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): Franklin Fisher, Jim Schoenberg

This presentation will detail Waterford Township Department of Public Works efforts to seek a method of spatially representing and integrating information sent from Michigan's One-Call utility staking system (MissDig) with Waterford Township's existing GIS and work order system. This process involved two software companies whose products independently functioned in the Esri geodatabase environment but were not integrated with each other. Waterford worked with both companies to find a method for the two programs to function together, which greatly increased productivity and simplified the ticket processing procedure for personnel at Waterford. The presentation will cover the objectives of the integration, such as direct creation of work orders in the work order management system by the ticket management software, along with details of the implementation and results of the integration. The presentation will also discuss future planned extensions of the integrated systems for auto work order generation from other programs.
