Track: Modeling
Author(s): ChungWeon Oh, Chulsue Hwang

The purpose of this study is to see how an urban spatial configuration using Space Syntax theory is integrated into a GIS model for spatial structure analysis in Anyang city in Korea. This study examines urban land-use variation and urban spatial structure in a large development such as a New-town project in 1990s. The result of this study is as follows: First, there is a drastic change in urban spatial structure caused by extensive development. Second, the changes in commercial land-use patterns are caused by New-town project. Third, the changes in urban spatial structure is related to changes in commercial land-use patterns. In conclusion, the potential of the Space Syntax approach within GIS should be of interest to many GIS users.
