Paper
Estimating Uncertainty in a GIS Application
Track: Climate, Weather and Atmosphere
Author(s): Mike Squires

This presentation describes a technique to estimate uncertainty information when calculating the Northeast Snowfall Impact Scale (NESIS). NESIS scores are a function of snowfall area and amount as well as population affected. However, the final score is sensitive to the snowfall "map" created from point snowfall observations. Methods for quantifying uncertainty and estimating confidence intervals are discussed.
