Greater Cincinnati Water Works Maintains Records Information Using ArcGIS Engine Software-Based Application
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): David Raffenberg, Jon Downey

The Greater Cincinnati Water Works has completed a field-based GIS project allowing field inspectors, surveyors, and the Records Division to work in a cohesive manner to create and maintain records drawings. To integrate the workflows of various departments, a custom, ArcGIS Engine software-based application was created allowing inspectors and surveyors to directly edit the records geodatabase in the field.

A special field application allowed users to work with a complex geodatabase on a field-based Tablet PC platform. This application, while tailored to the workflow of the individual departments, guided its data through a process geared at supporting the needs of the Water Works Records Department while conforming to a predefined timeframe for completing all records drawings. Furthermore, precautions were taken to protect data from outsider access and hardware failure, thereby ensuring that every edit to the geodatabase is protected and time loss was minimized.
