Streamlining Naperville's ArcSDE Asset Management Process and Systems Integration
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): Larry Gunderson, Rick Hammond

Through analysis and consultation, the city of Naperville's Department of Public Utilities--Water, Water Distribution & Collection Division documented the current maintenance workflow and how it could specifically be improved upon through systems integration. As a result, the division staff members worked together with their consultant and undertook the task of implementing Azteca's Cityworks software and integrating it with the city's existing GIS and HTE systems to help streamline their asset maintenance management process. The main components of this project included (1) recommendations for improving their existing GIS in light of upgrading to Esri's 9.1 release with specific emphasis on the ArcSDE configuration and geodatabase design, (2) recommendations for improving their current Cityworks configuration in light of Azteca's 4.3 release and need for multiple department involvement, (3) Cityworks configuration and HTE integration workshops, (4) initial Cityworks rollout and testing, (5) training, and (6) additional recommendations for workflow improvement.
