ArcGIS Server Provides a Scalable Enterprise Wastewater Utility GIS
Track: Application Development
Author(s): Jeffrey Duke, Mark Kramer, David Cox, Tyler Huehmer

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) has been using two separate systems to accommodate its staff's GIS needs. The current systems, which have been in place for five years, consist of a desktop application and an ArcIMS application with limited functionality. The challenge facing NEORSD was migration of existing applications into a single intranet-based solution, which included all existing features of the old systems, while providing a sustainable path forward. After thorough evaluation and planning, NEORSD chose ArcGIS Server as the foundation for its enterprise-wide GIS application. Using ASP .NET, an intranet application was developed that provides NEORSD with an innovative and flexible framework for its evolving business needs. The user interface was designed to be intuitive and requires little training. The application provides end users with the ability to work with a map customized to their departmental and individual needs. Available tools range from simple reporting to complex analysis.
