Abstract
Real-Time Spatial Data Creation and Online Mapping Track: Environmental Management Author(s): Harkeerat Kang King County, Washington's Online Materials Exchange provides a safe and efficient venue for exchanging relatively inexpensive, reusable items so that these items may be kept out of the waste stream. The goal of the program is to reduce the overall amount of material that is disposed at the landfill. The Web site lists garage/yard sales, household items, reusable building materials, and a list of businesses and organizations that accepts unwanted materials for reuse, recycling, or disposal. In addition to the listing of garage and yard sales, the Web site provides GIS functionality using customized ArcIMS software. The application provides on-the-fly spatial data creation capability and online mapping for each sale site.
