Abstract
 The Geographic Information System for the Jindrichuv Hradec Region Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Roman Faber, Jiri Bradac The GIS for the Jindrichuv Hradec region was established as a common project of 26 small villages/towns and the city of Jindrichuv Hradec. The aim of the cooperation has been the creation of a unified system (i.e., software and geographic database) for the entire region, which is used by subjects of public sector (i.e., both autonomous [self-government] and state organizations). The system offers access to basic GIS layers (cadastral map, maps of medium scales, orthophotomaps, address system, utilities, etc.) and to many other thematic data (urban planning, environmnent, transport, municipal properties etc.). The GIS has also proved its usefulness in generally popular fields. It provides tourist and cycling track maps that are intensively used in this peaceful and picturesque region by the general public. The system is constantly being updated and amended with new data. The whole project demonstrates that combination of good ideas, sufficient funds and proper software can bring a result--quality GIS.
