Integrating Drilling Data in a Geoinformation System using ArcGIS
Track: Mining and Geosciences

Albania is a rich country in ore deposits with a very rich database. Unfortunately, the largest part of the information is in analog format. We will report the integration of historical drilling data from the Pogradeci iron-nickel laterite deposits in a geographic information system using ArcGIS 9. For each of the drillings apart of the geographic coordinates is included also attribute information like depth, thickness of ore body intersected, grade of the ore, azimuth, date of the drilling, etc. Other layers were also included like a digitized geological map, satellite imagery of various dates, and elevation data. An estimation of the thickness of the ore body was done by kriging the attribute representing ore thickness. This was performed by using ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst. Problematic was found the incorporation in the analysis of the faulting system.
