ArcPad Application for Municipal Transportation Assets Management
Track: State and Local Government
Author(s): Shelton Udayakumara, Mark Berkovitz

The City of Toronto Transportation Services needs field data collection application that can be used to observe and collect field data related to transportation assets such as pavements and sidewalks.

Esri ArcPad 6.0.3 was customized to design the field data collection tools using Esri ArcPad Application Builder 6.0.1. Esri ArcGIS 9.0 was used to manipulate supporting spatial dataset.

Enhanced Municipal Pavement Management Application (MPMA), a third-party application, from Static Consulting provides required standardized attributes and historical data related to transportation assets.

The customized ArcPad tools used to collect visual pavement and sidewalk defects through the customized forms. Pavement and aidewalk condition indexes are calculated based on field observations. Stand-alone DBF tables are the output from ArcPad.

MPMA is used to import DBF tables to MPMA for further analysis to determine priorities and provide recommendations for pavements and sidewalk rehabilitation and maintenances strategies based on field observations.
