Locational Analysis of Paleoindian and Archaic Sites in South Florida
Track: Archaeology
Author(s): John Turck

This paper utilizes geographic information system technology (Esri's ArcView 3.2) to analyze the distribution of Paleoindian and Archaic period sites in south Florida. This study reveals patterns in site locations based on four environmental variables: elevation, sea level, vegetation, and soil drainage. These patterns in site locations were used to determine the most likely and least likely areas for finding new archaeological sites in south Florida.
