Paper
GPS Continuously Operating Reference Stations and Online Positioning User Service
Track: Surveying
Author(s): William Stone

The U.S. National Geodetic Survey (NGS) has developed a nationwide network of continuous GPS reference stations designed to support the broad spectrum of GPS positioning techniques and applications. This Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) network comprises more than 800 permanent, geodetic-quality GPS receivers and has been established through an exemplary cooperative effort involving dozens of other organizations. CORS GPS observational data is freely provided to the user community and is capable of supporting high-accuracy positioning requirements and the demands of geographic information system applications.

An extension of the CORS network, the Online Positioning User Service (OPUS), is a free, automated utility that processes GPS observation data with respect to the CORS network.

This presentation will discuss the development of the CORS network and CORS data access, applications, and forthcoming enhancements such as real-time data delivery. In addition, OPUS will be described and its future enhancements will be outlined.
