Danish power sectors invest heavily in rolling out FTTh
Track: Telecommunications & Location-Based Services
Author(s): Leif Gronbech

During the past few years Danish power distributors have chosen to heavily invest in building broadband networks to capitalize on increasing customer demands for new services that include IP, Video-on-Demand and HDTV. Over 90% of these companies are building their networks with air blown fiber and fiber to the home (FTTh). It is critical to have a centralized geospatial environment with real-time, accurate network views to enable streamlined engineering and construction operations, accelerated revenue realization through faster network builds, and avoidance of unnecessary capital expenditures. Overlaying the network on land-based information enables planners to visualize equipment, capacity, available bandwidth, demographics, and customer information, all through attribute, spatial, or thematic queries. Keeping track of as-built and as-planned networks, also improves the performance of key areas, including procurement, planning, provisioning, engineering, operations, workforce management, and service assurance.
