Using ArcIMS to Deploy Crime Mapping to Many Users
Track: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice
Author(s): Penny Peters

This presentation will demonstrate how a large consortium that is sharing public safety information is deploying a crime mapping tool and analysis in a Web environment across multiple jurisdictional lines.

The U.S. Justice Department has suggested that CLEMIS may be the largest and longest standing data sharing public safety consortium in the United States. CLEMIS, Esri and Oakland County GIS have built a crime Internet map server application for mapping, analysis and reporting across this large consortium.

Using GIS, CAD and record management system data, the investigator, analyst, and/or administrator, can simply sign onto the crime IMS application and select the criteria for each query. Each member has a logon associated with his/her community boundary. Data is updated every 24 hours and geocoded using an automated process.
