Joint Geospatial-Intelligence Activity--A Partnership between JFCOM and NGA
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Justin Sherin

The Joint Geospatial Intelligence Activity (JGA) is established to bring the Combatant Commands (COCOMs), Services, and Agencies (C/S/A) together to assess baseline capabilities and evaluate options for enhancing geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) support to and from national, theater/Joint Task Force (JTF), and tactical users. JGA will document the current (2006) and programmed (through 2013) capability baseline for GEOINT access, collection/production, employment, and dissemination. Capability gaps and shortfalls will then be identified. Potential solutions, including nonmaterial options, for enhancing GEOINT support will be evaluated and vetted through appropriate Joint, DoD, and/or Service processes to ensure that interoperable standards-based enterprises and compatible processes are developed. The JGA will use a collaborative approach for extending GEOINT capabilities throughout the National System for Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG). Results will guide implementation plans and investment strategies throughout the NSG.
