Using ArcGIS Server as SOA Linear Referencing Core
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Matt von Wahlde

Large organizations share a central challenge of integrating diverse datasets within a complex enterprise environment. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the arena of enterprise GIS. The broad scope of enterprise GIS requires sophisticated technologies for data and application integration. Massachusetts Executive Office of Transportation has taken an innovative approach to these issues by leveraging the power of ArcGIS Server in a service-oriented architecture to build a powerful and extensible GIS data and application integration framework. The framework is composed of "services" that provide specific data processing functions and support reuse among multiple applications. One example is an LRS and location validation service. This service can be accessed by applications such as the Crash Records system that take externally collected and unvalidated locations and locates those incident on the enterprise linear referencing framework.
