Geospatial Solutions for End Users: Experts and Beginners
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Joanna Wrzodak

The Esri International User Conference assembles GIS professionals from all over the world to discuss the latest software and technologies of gathering, manipulating and publishing geospatial data. Let's ask ourselves however, who is our end user? Is he/she as experienced in the geospatial technology as the people who develop it? Not really, or frankly speaking sometimes not at all. So how do we bring the vast amounts of information that hides in our vector and raster datasets, geodatabases to an inexperienced customer, who only needs to view geospatial data and possibly print out "a map"? This presentation will discuss solutions developed by the US Army Europes' (USAREUR) Sustainable Range Program (SRP) to distribute geospatial data to our end user--the US Soldier. The utilization of various Esri products (ArcGIS Publisher, ArcReader, and ArcIMS) and other mapping technologies, such as GeoPDFs, as well as examples of other customized products will be presented.
